Core aeration is the mechanical removal of small cores of soil from the lawn using and depositing them back on the top of the soil. It is often described as the most important thing you can do to create a healthy, thick and healthly lawn. Core aeration breaks up compacted soil allowing water, nutrients and oxygen to penetrate to the root zone of the turf. The soil cores are also full of microorganisms that help to accelerate the decomposition of the thatch layer. By keeping your thatch layer to a minimum you will reduce turf damage from insects and disease without the use of any pesticides. Add over seeding to help thicken thin and bare areas and to introduce new and improved grass varieties to your existing turf.
Seeding may be necessary at times due to many factors including neglect, adverse weather conditions and insect and disease damage. You may also want to improve your turf quality by introducing another species or variety of turfgrass to your lawn. We can overseed and improve your lawn with the best seed varieties available. Slice seeding is used in the renovation process or to incorporate an updated seed into a poor quality lawn. Our machine will break-up the thatch layer by cutting small slits into the soil. New seed will then fall into these slits and make contact with the soil. Seed to soil contact is essential for a high germination rate and a quality job.
De-thatching involves the removal of the matted layer of dead and decaying plant material between growing grass and the soil. This layer of thatch starves the soil of the necessary water, oxygen and nutrients that it requires… Thatch is removed by combing the turf with a machine called a Power Rake. The power rake pulls the matted thatch up from the soil and deposits it on top of the lawn. Once the lawn is power raked, the thatch is collected, and removed. The lawn is then slice seeded to reestablish a new beautiful turf variety.
Aeravation opens up hard, compacted soil and allows water, air and nutrients to reach the root zone where they can do the most good. It shatters the soil below ground at the root level, but does not leave a core plug on the turf….less messy for you! It works best on dry compacted surfaces. Our aeravation service combined with seeding can make you a beautiful lawn!
